Dear Reader,
From time-to-time I’m going to write about the books, essays, documentaries, and even plays, movies and TV shows that have influenced my thinking on strategy and on how to be an effective advisor.
Where better to begin than with Machiavelli’s The Prince, a book many times more often referenced than read and, therefore, much more widely condemned than understood.
Since Machiavelli is often thought of as either amoral or immoral, and since The Prince was condemned as having been written by the Devil himself (which led to its publication being barred by the Catholic church), I will have to keep the free preview short this week, lest I be accused of corrupting the innocent.
To those who venture beyond the paywall, allow me to paraphrase an earlier figure of the Italian Renaissance: all innocence abandon ye who enter here.
